Okay folks, lets get this tribe up and running again.....

What do you think is lacking in media representations of interracial relationships? Are there any films or TV shows that you think do a good job of depicting interracial couples?

The fact that there have been more movies with interracial couples and depictions of interracial couples on television (including White guys with Black women) shows that at least Hollywood thinks the subject isn't taboo anymore. The fact that a lot of these depictions tend to be stereotypical shows that there is still a ways to go.

girlfriends had the relationship with toni and her (now ex) hubbie

it...i think did a good job at portraying a relationship...in any case, and it was a black woman and white man. the man was even SHORTER than her! GASP! :)

Thinking about it, there was that flick with Sanaa Lathan, the one on "Girlfriends", as well as a few other minor occurrences. However, I noticed that it tends to be usually a white guy with someone of another color. The last time I saw a movie that dealt with interracial dating before Sanaa's was with Denzel and Sarita Choudhury in "Mississippi Masala". I'm sure someone is going to refresh my memory or bring something else to mind.

I did see something interesting the other day though. "Diary of a Tired Black Man" has powderkeg all over it!

    Here's a link and description:
    www.tiredblackman.com/

"DIARY OF A TIRED BLACK MAN is a simple story about the complex relationships between Black Men and Black Women. It follows the life and relationships of a successful black man as he tries to find a happy place to rest his heart.

He is constantly challenged by the anger he finds in the black women he gets involved with. From his wife, whom he divorces, to the other women he tries to date after her - nothing but Drama...Drama...Drama!

So what's a black man to do? He tries dating outside of his race, which only brings up a different set of issues for him to deal with.

It's an interesting ride into the reality of black relationships that a lot of people will relate to, and a lot of people will learn from."

Let me know what you think! Later!
