I was created, so I imagine my parents were okay with each other at least for a few moments those years ago. On one hand it may have been an act of rebellion against status quo, maybe it was based on real common interests & attraction, or one last blast of summer loving on the coattails of the 60s, welcoming the 70s. Any relationship I'm in is filled with multiple ethnicities, even the relationship I have with myself as a human being. So family and friends cant escape from this reality when I'm about. Lol. :-D

It's just not with black people but with all groups of people. I hear it all the time from my Native friends. It's so sad and narrow minded to not embrace the uniquness of an individual.

my ex boyfriend was english and his family never even mentioned my race. my family, on the other hand, they were polite but the fact that he was white was always "something to talk about" =p it was annoying but eh, what are you gonna do i remember sitting with him in manchester airport, and this guy, a black man, literally moved to another seat so he could sit and STARE at us. nuttiest thing that i've ever seen =p i remember my ex saying two really glorious things 1) that he hoped eventually everyone would be mixed 2) even though we were different colors, he said he remembered looking at me and thinking we didnt actually look that different

Many years ago, when my older brother brought home his girlfriend from college, who happened to be black.. I remember my mom & grandma grousing about it. I confronted them on their bullshit.. and frankly, they NEVER had a solid reason.. As far as I could tell, it was just stupid bigotry. Grandma passed away about 10 years ago, leaving my mom as the family matriarch. And my mom is decidedly more liberal than grandma was. About 5 years ago, I met the women who is now my wife. She is mixed. As far as I can tell, she has been welcomed into the family with open arms. My mom gave me grief about my living with a woman that I was not married to (funny story), but never said ANYTHING about race.. at least not to me.

I don't talk to my dad about stuff like this. Cum to think of it, I don't talk to him about much of anything. My mom used to always tell me to bring home a conventional Chinese girl. She kinda gave up on that and now she doesn't seem to care who I date. Either way, I never bring home girls anyway. I probably wouldn't tell them about a girl I'm seeing unless the relationship gets serious. Not that I would hide it from them though.

my folks are dead, so no worries there but hers, well, so far everything is good, but i worry sometimes. My folks would have loved her to death.not a doubt in my mind. my mom would ahve kicked me in the butt for making her wait so long till i got a decent girl to be with. Her folks are up in MD and only know OF me but we've met a few very brief times and i try to make a good impression but im not up to their economic level so that stresses me out a lot.

The only way I can describe where I was raised is "lily white". However, my parents taught me that everyone is equal and they taught me to love and never hate anyone for just looking different than I do. Comming up at the time I did and where I was, this is a pretty remarkable thing. I had the best parents. I still have Mom and she is perfectly fine with it. So are my brothers and my whole extended family. I have been blessed.

Not every family member, I believe, has yet adjusted his/her thoughts towards finding out that one of their sibling is dating a person of colour. Even in this day and age, a lot of akward prejudice still exists, and we shouldn't pretend it doesn't. I want to know, how would your folks or friends feel if they found you being involved in an interracial relationship?
