in the context to which you refer.
And preference is defined as:
The selecting of someone or something over another or others.
My personal shortcut for distinguishing the two is that if it is a person, it is a preference; and if it is a thing, then it is a fetish.

What is the difference between a person that prefers a particular race(s) say asain and a asainphile? I rememeber someone saying that while saying they prefer men of color and I am curious to the distinction. I never got a chance to ask the person. -

IT ISN'T "RACE" IT'S "ETHNICITY"...
i am black but from the "human race", my ancestry is ethnicly from africa. to suggest a non-black woman is dating outside of her race to date me makes me look like i'm not human...
